With European forecasters investing 10 times as much in their computer capacities as in the US, and with the successes they've achieved in forecasting better in the US than the US does, what is the opportunity created for newspapers? Alliances with European forecasters?

I wonder if the Times has any system in place to flag a story like this one for local media so that they can at least have the opportunity to mention it while it is hot? The geographical interest area for UNC at Chapel Hill is quite large and covers a lot of media from the News & Observer to WUNC to an array of radio, television and print options.

WAN-IFRA - 65th World Newspaper Congress
I thought I would take a look at the program for the World Newspaper Congress in Bangkok in early June, just 4 months from now. There apparently is none other than some tourist board-type events. I guess that reflects newspapers in 2013.
